Following on from our recent trip to the Isle of Wight and visit to Newport records office, we have an earlier date for the arrival of our car on the Island – and it was important too!
Ryde Carnival is the oldest carnival in England, dating back to 1887 the Diamond Jubilee of Queen Victoria, and this takes place every year. Victoria Street was en route for the procession, with a couple of period photos showing Downing and Donovan (Ryde Garage) on Carnival Day. Ryde Carnival is very popular with both locals and tourists all coming out to see the processions. With that in mind, wouldn’t it be great to get the new Triumph Herald Convertible in the showroom in time for the Carnival?

So our new research sees that exactly what happened with an earlier advert, dated Thursday 25th August appearing in the Isle of Wight Times.
UPDATE: This was a very significant date with the latest Autocar magazine featuring the new (brought forward) launch of the Triumph Herald convertible, on the front cover on 19th August, 1960. (See HERE)
