During a recent peek through ebay, a print of an illustration turned up showing the entire Herald range with the convertible grabbing our attention – the numberplate was showing 921BGW a car that we did know about from a few years ago, and we did have an actual photo within the TriumphHerald.com database.
Back then (2009) we had the car with a Date of Liability of 1st July 2007 – with a date of first registration being 1st July 1980 (?) perhaps a re-reg or re-import or something else. The original photo was from an old TSSC courier magazine called the Turning Circle published in May 1987, at which time the car was looking pretty battered. Does the car still exist?
We managed to get the crucial details of the car – Commission Number being Y19794CV and the engine number being Y23977HE. The car itself was Signal Red. The London number plate 921BGW sets the car between October 1960 (1BGW) and July 1961 (999BGW)– with this car being at the end of the run. The car itself was built at the very end of October 1960 – a tough ‘sell’ throughout an English winter a drop head convertible!
Today the ‘liability’ date remains the same – 1st July 2007. Tucked away in a garage somewhere or gone?
