It’s always great to find elements on a car that refer to the manufacture date – with a dated part you can tell if it’s likely to be original. Although there were no doubts the interior/seats were original to 1960, it was good to find an original manufacturers label complete with a date stamped on the reverse. 16th June, 1960. This label was found underneath the rear seat squab.

The Lace Web Spring Co, Ltd, Sandiacre, Nottingham
In 1890 J. E. Marshall founded a firm in Sandiacre to manufacture spring units for beds which, in 1924 became the Lace Web Spring Co Ltd. Marshall’s patent spring units were quite revolutionary, supplanting the previously individually attached springs.
